Violet

Who has never tasted a bittersweet feeling? Swallowed and assimilated, felt and involved, a mix of different layers, an envelope of sensations. Queijo com goiabada (cheese with guava) introduces an intimate space of dialogues and displacements between consumer goods and souvenirs from a future past.

Bruno Silva lives and works between Clermont-Ferrand (FR) and Porto (PT). Surrounding himself with everyday elements discarded by society, Bruno Silva invokes the materiality of bodies in a confrontation between appearance and substance, preserving marks, scars, and emotional traces. Wrapped in a new skin, his works take on a mummified appearance, summoning the body as an unlimited proliferation of a self-defined form inhabiting limbo.

Violet’s fifth solo exhibition is the result of an exchange between Bruno Silva and Liesbet Grupping, the artist running Violet. Liesbet Grupping’s solo exhibition will take place simultaneously at home alone, a space directed by Bruno Silva in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Liesbet and Bruno first met during an artistic residency in Clermont-Ferrand. This collaboration is part of Liesbet Grupping's artistic research, supported by the Flemish government and presented in chapters at Violet.

Violet is a space for contemporary art, founded by Liesbet Grupping and Vildana Memic. Violet offers a platform to artists whose work is action- or process-based. Within the walls of an old bakery shop, they invite the viewer to an intimate, playful, and sometimes unsettling experience. Besides exploring the possibilities for engaging viewers to interact closely with the installations presented, Violet seeks to establish a platform for dialogue, discussion, and experiment.
