Rik Rosseels Gallery (KAAI)

Tom Woestenborghs (1978) is a visual artist who uses photographic images as a basis for collages. He mainly takes the photographs himself, but also from magazines, videos and the internet, he collects and archives images that he uses later.

If an artist takes an existing image out of its context and uses it as a work of art, then he has a purpose in doing so. As an artist you raise a social issue for discussion.

'Woestenborghs' work appears to be photographic, but in fact they are collages, built up from many layers of self-adhesive plastic film. Trained as a painter, Woestenborghs switched to plastic film because this material has a brighter effect than paint. He shows his collages as 'paintings' but also as light boxes.

Rik Rosseels Gallery was founded in 2017 under the name Art Gallery De Wael 15. Initially created as a platform for emerging artists, it has steadily grown into a gallery that represents and supports young, mid-career, and established artists over the long term.

The gallery organizes solo and group exhibitions, participates in art fairs, and supports artists' initiatives. In collaboration with the artists, the gallery also publishes catalogs and books.

To further strengthen its ambitions and provide artists with a wider platform, this second location was opened in 2025, along with a name change. With this move, Rik Rosseels Gallery reaffirms its ambition to be a key player in the contemporary international art scene.
