Venues / PROJECT INFINIT

PROJECT INFINIT is a newly established artist-run space in Antwerp. During Antwerp Art Weekend, it opens with its first exhibition, Kontrapunt – Edition III: The Politics of Visibility, an ongoing curatorial project initiated and curated by Maryam Najd since 2017.

Kontrapunt – Edition III: The Politics of Visibility is a group exhibition grounded in the idea of counterpoint, bringing together artistic practices that differ in approach, form, or perspective rather than illustrating a shared aesthetic. Instead of seeking harmony or consensus, the exhibition creates encounters where distinct artistic voices coexist, intersect, and challenge one another. Friction and difference are approached as productive conditions for dialogue and reflection.

This edition focuses on visibility, understood not as a neutral visual condition but as a political one shaped by power. Visibility is produced and regulated through social and institutional structures such as media systems, architecture, borders, and technologies of surveillance. The exhibition asks how visibility functions both as a mechanism of control and as a potential site of resistance.

The works presented explore the intersections of visibility with language, memory, embodiment, and spatial politics, approaching visibility as a contested and continuously negotiated terrain.

Participating artists:
Nástio Mosquito, Mekhitar Garabedian, Carlos Aires, Sofie Muller, and Maryam Najd.

The discussion is moderated by Kathleen Weyts, editor-in-chief of GLEAN, and a writer, lecturer, and consultant in art management. She previously directed CAHF and co-curated projects at Bozar, Brussels.

The panel brings together the participating artists to reflect on visibility as a political condition shaped by power and on how it operates differently across cultural contexts and artistic approaches. The conversation addresses how visibility is produced, regulated, and contested, and how it functions both as a mechanism of control and as a potential site of resistance. Taking place within the exhibition at PROJECT INFINIT, the discussion unfolds in direct relation to the works, engaging with questions about who can appear, who remains unseen, and under what conditions visibility enables agency or produces vulnerability.

Positioned at the opening of the weekend, the panel offers a critical point of entry into the exhibition, inviting multiple perspectives to emerge through dialogue.

14 May, 15:00-16:00

Stef Kamil Carlens and Nel Ponsaers perform within the exhibition at PROJECT INFINIT.

Known for his work with Zita Swoon Group, Carlens approaches performance as an open and evolving form, moving fluidly between music and visual art. Working both solo and in collaboration, they develop situations in which sound, voice, and presence are shaped in direct relation to space and context.

Within the exhibition, the performance takes shape in close relation to the environment in which it unfolds. Without a fixed stage or clear separation between performer and audience, sound and voice move through the space in dialogue with the works and the architecture, allowing the event to emerge as a shared situation rather than a closed form.

Taking place in the evening, the performance invites a focused and attentive mode of engagement, where duration, proximity, and interaction become central to the experience.

16 May, 20:30. Attendance is free but limited. Reserve your spot here.
