DEUSS Gallery POP-UP

Anouk Van de Wal started her career with analogue photography. This method allows her to work with traditional and contemporary techniques. Her work is characterized by an unmistakable sense of poetry and takes the viewer on a visual journey of discovery.

After a seemingly trivial bike accident, her life came to a standstill. Time yellowed before her eyes. She captured this progression by making prints of objects on paper by using sunlight. Eventually, her world expanded, allowing her to capture broader sights again. A process she united in a layered composition, where each layer forms a distinct image, collectively telling one story. The images are printed on Japanese rice paper, which emphasizes the tactile dimension of the stories.

Van de Wal makes mental abstractions from nature. She photographs with Bach blaring through her ears, blocking out the sounds of birds or the crackling of brushwood. Nothing should remind her of nature when she’s capturing images through a portrait lens.

For the first time DEUSS Gallery collaborated with an artist for a pop-up. Anouk Van de Wal’s work is a natural extension of the gallery’s values, exploring new creative frontiers that define the intersection of innovation and artistic expression.
