Behind the Curtain

As part of the OFF program of Antwerp Art Weekend, Alexandra Pușcaș and Ged Proost present in Behind the Curtain, a duo exhibition in the former Seamen’s House.

Behind the Curtain brings together two intersecting practices in a spatial approach where image, object, and environment become fully integrated. Painted works assert themselves as physical presences, while sculptural elements adopt pictorial qualities. The exhibition unfolds through scale and spatial positioning, developing in direct dialogue with the site rather than following a fixed curatorial framework.

Building on earlier collaborative experiments, both artists explore the threshold between painting and sculpture in close dialogue with the site. Functioning as an open-ended investigation, the works respond to the space and to each other, allowing painting and sculpture to test each other’s limits.

Club Zee and FAAR are bringing new life to the former Seamen’s Club, transforming it into a space for contemporary artistic practice. The building, once conceived as a place for temporary residents to moor for the night, transforms into an inspiring historical context for exhibitions and artistic exploration. Within this setting, the former meeting rooms of the Seamen’s Club host Behind the Curtain, a duo exhibition by Ged Proost and Alexandra Pușcaș. As one of the first exhibitions to take place in the space, it sets the tone for its new role. Following this show, Club Zee and FAAR will continue to develop and curate the building for future exhibitions and events.
