For the second year in a row, TICK TACK will extend its program to the heart of the Antwerp South district. This year, TICK TACK is delighted to invite you to the Antwerp premiere of “The Feeling Sonnets (Transitional Object),” the latest film by the Amsterdam-based collective Metahaven.
With Metahaven’s signature visual aesthetic, “The Feeling Sonnets (Transitional Object)” uses both essayist and fictionalized motifs and patterns for its imaginative take on a 2022 poetry collection by Eugene Ostashevsky. The film builds on the collective’s earlier moving image work, such as “Chaos Theory” (2021) and “Hometown” (2018), investigating joy, absurdism, truth claims, and childhood—now with Ostashevsky’s poetry as its impetus.
“The Feeling Sonnets (Transitional Object)” is constructed around Ostashevsky’s voice and protagonist Amélie Haest in three roles. Unsettling words coalesce with shivering scenes, and nerve-bending music by New York composer inti figgis-vizueta. Written and directed by Metahaven, the work’s cinematography is by Remko Schnorr, Kyulim Kim, and Metahaven, whilst make-up is by the legendary Antwerp-based artist Inge Grognard.
Filmed in Antwerp, and co-produced by TICK TACK in the Spring of 2024, “The Feeling Sonnets (Transitional Object)” marks TICK TACK’s inaugural venture into moving image production, expanding its role as a development platform for time-based art and experimental film.
