am studio proudly presents a solo exhibition of sisters Julie & Olivia Saverys. As great-granddaughters of Belgian artist Albert Saverys, they want to keep the family's artistry alive. They have translated their fascination of the Belgian Coast into colourful art series. They spent a large part of their youth in Knokke-Heist, where this artist duo now proceeds their artistic creations. For the sisters, each artwork and every idea starts by the coast.
Highly inspired by the Belgian Coast, they have developed a consistent colour palette for their artworks; yellow and orange inspired by the sunrise and sunset and turquoise and cobalt blue that represent the color mix of the sea.
The selected art series for Antwerp Art Weekend is called MAQUETTES, named after the models of their father’s architectural projects. It fascinates them that something small can be the start of a bigger creation. In this series, the starter modules or MAQUETTES are the main component to create a subsequently larger unity.
Every module has a fixed size, but a unique structure. The sand as DNA of the Belgian Coast is incorporated into each artwork and contributes to the vivid appearance of the paint. The modules are exhibited both individually and combined into one unit, in which an intriguing play of colors takes on the leading role in this series.
The artists will be present at the following moments during the Antwerp Art Weekend:
Thursday, May 13 from 17h-20h.
Friday, May 14 from 16h-18h.
Saturday, May 15 from 14h-15h.
Sunday, May 16 from 14h-15h.
